When was the last time you truly, truly felt amazing?
If your answer is ''right now, you silly fool'' then GOOD! But if your answer resembles anything like ''well, when I was a teenager'' or ''before my marriage'' or ''I don't remember'', oh lady! Perhaps we need to lift you out of your style rut. With the day-to-day responsibilities of our jobs, study, relationships and housework, it's unsurprising that some of us have simply stopped putting ourselves first . But it has. to. STOP! If statements such as ''what's the point in making an effort anymore?'', ''I don't deserve new make-up'', ''all my shoes are ugly, broken and worn, but why bother?'' or ''I like my shapeless clothing. There's nobody to dress up for anyway'' have slowly worked themselves into your internal dialogue, it's time rediscover who you really are. Nothing has changed, dollface! Think about it - if you hadn't decided that there was no point in trying anymore or looking your best, you would still be the same you who felt UNSTOPPABLE. Now! Let's get to work!
x Repeat After Me: ''I am a gorgeous, charming and FEARLESS superwoman!''
Remind yourself of this regularly, and even if you don't feel like you are, act as if you do! Write it on a beautiful postcard and stick it on your mirror, or have it printed on a luscious shade of paper and keep it in your wallet. Remember - there is nothing sexier or more alluring than a confident person, and a smile is the best instant facelift! (And they're so enchantingly contagious!)
x Throw Out Anything Which Makes You Feel Anything Less Than AMAZING.
This may sound a little drastic, but it's important! Don't worry, I'm not suggesting you throw out all of your favourite pairs of snuggly tracksuit and pyjama pants (after all, a girl does need things to be comfortable and warm in!), but move these to a separate drawer or cupboard. The idea is to build a wardrobe that makes you feel sexy, attractive and ready to take on the world. Prone to impulse purchases and 'I-don't-know-why-I-bought-this-but-I-did' shopping? Next time you're out, keep this quote from Dita Von Teese in mind:
''I won't buy anything unless it's more amazing than what I already have on.''
Make this your shopping mantra, and remind yourself that you won't settle for anything less than the best.
x Build A Wardrobe Of Stylish Basics.
Every girl deserves to own a phenomenal pair of shoes, a heart-stopping dress, a pair of pants or jeans that lovingly hug your curves and a timelessly elegant trench coat. If you don't own these, make them a priority for your next shopping trip! Why? They can be the building blocks for a number of stylish outfits, and on days where you feel like it's just too hard to get dressed, a belted trench coat or jacket will distract and make you look instantly polished.
x Make A Date With Yourself. Regularly.
Once a week, romance yourself - see a movie alone, visit a decadent restaurant, take ballroom dancing lessons, anything that you desire - just enjoy your own company and leave the partner/kids/friends at home! Plan to do something different that you've always wanted to do - why not enrol in an evening class one night a week?
x Take Your Break At Work. EVERYTIME!
None of this sitting-at-your-desk business! Get out of that wretched air-conditioning (your skin hates it and it's no good for you!) and take time to sit in the park, go for a walk, indulge in a cafe lunch or simply call a friend - savour every moment, and don't for a second entertain any feelings of guilt - you are 100% entitled to do it! Still need a rock solid excuse to take your lunch break? Book an appointment, so that you have to leave the office, and take a lunchtime yoga class, get your eyelashes tinted or see a travel agent!
x Go Out With Your Girlfriends - at LEAST once a fortnight!
Shop, meet for coffee, dance, giggle, make cocktails, anything, just let your hair down and celebrate!
x Remove Any Negative People/Influences From Your Life.
They are holding you back, frowning upon your ideals and stopping you from achieving your potential - you don't need them!
x Learn To Be Content And Positive By Writing A Daily Gratitude List.
Okay, so at first, counting blades of grass may sound more appealing, but hear me out! Learning to appreciate the small things in life helps open our eyes to how wonderful our lives really are, and helps us to experience much more joy and feel content! Start by writing down five things every day, even if it means writing things such as ''the sky looked lovely today'' or ''I didn't even feel like chips today - hooray!'', or simply participate in 'It's Friday!' every week! You may feel silly at first, but I promise, if you do this daily, soon you will truly feel like a happier, richer person!
x Write A List Of Your Dreams.
It doesn't matter if they sound crazy, far-fetched or wild - they're for you! Refer to these constantly, and choose to act on one a week, even if it only means doing something that will be the first step towards making your ambitions a reality!
x Finally, Treat Yourself To A Make-Over. YOU DESERVE IT!
It is likely that you have not done this for yourself for a very long time, or at all, so start planning it today! Go on - get your hair cut and try a completely new colour (what about experimenting with a new side fringe?), have your eyebrows professionally shaped and book yourself in for a manicure - it is almost impossible to feel like anything other than a total princess when you have other people making you look beautiful, and it will be an instant confidence booster! Now. After this, tell yourself that this is the start of a NEW chapter in your life - the one where you live your dreams, feel utterly fabulous and become exactly the sort of person you want to be!
xoxo
